Come and experience a piece of cultural history and lend a helping hand to biodiversity!
This day, Uppsala Nature School provides an opportunity to participate in and experience a piece of cultural history. Work is underway in Toran to restore the old wooded meadows. In traditional meadow management, the meadow is mowed in the spring and cut in the summer. Many sensitive plants can only survive in the special environment of the meadow. As traditionally managed meadows have declined significantly in our modern landscape, the few that remain are particularly important for a large number of herbs and insects.
Mowing a meadow involves raking away and burning last year's grass, leaves and fallen twigs, which benefits the growing herbs and facilitates mowing in the summer. On this day, we will help with the mowing in Toran. At a suitable time during the work, we will take a break for a cup of boiled coffee/hot juice and a simple lunch cooked over the fire.
